DESTECTIC, standing for Design Technology and Tactics, is a laboratory that merges classical and contemporary design technology and tactics, encompassing artificial intelligence (AI), generative systems, and form-focused algorithms. The mission extends beyond comprehension, aiming to transform urban landscapes by harnessing advanced technologies for deeper insights into city spaces and the reinterpretation of architectural essence via AI. We conduct research aimed at uncovering new insights in urban planning and architecture by associating spatial and formal aspects with various social data. This research is being expanded and transformed into both academic frameworks and practical techniques. This research redefines problems from a design and technological perspective, analyzing them to formulate design tactics and develop new design tools to execute these tactics. In this process, we actively engage in exchange and collaboration with government, academia, and industry stakeholders. We are dedicated to computational design education, bridging the past, present, and future of design technology. The core of DESTECTIC's education offerings resides within the master's and doctoral degree programs at the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape, University of Calgary. We develop curriculums and courses with a focus on nurturing pioneers that lead the way in the ever-evolving interdisciplinary domain of design with technology. Additionally, through various publications, lectures, and talks, we aim to promote the value of design technology to a wider audience.
